Barebells vs ProPud
Barebells and ProPud are two Swedish brands with their own take on protein bars. The biggest difference is the range. ProPud focuses on soft bars and flavors inspired by Swedish fika, while Barebells offers more flavors and several different types of bars.
If you are comparing the two, flavor and texture are probably the best places to start.
What’s the difference?
ProPud has a smaller selection of protein bars, with around 17 to 18 grams of protein per bar. All of the bars have a soft texture, but it is the flavors that really set the range apart.
Many come from the Fika Edition. Fika is a Swedish tradition of taking a break for coffee and something sweet, often a cake, cinnamon bun or chocolate ball. ProPud takes inspiration from this tradition with flavors such as Cinnamon Bun, Chocolate Ball and Apple Pie.
Some of these flavors can also be found at Barebells, including Cinnamon Bun and Chocolate Ball. Apple Pie, on the other hand, is currently unique to the ProPud range. ProPud has made these familiar fika flavors a central part of its protein bar selection.
Barebells has a wider range overall, with around 15 to 20 grams of protein per bar. There is also more variation in texture. You can choose between Original Bars with 20 grams of protein, softer Soft Bars, plant-based Vegan Bars and the Spread range, which has a crisp outer layer and a soft filling.
Flavors and textures
If you like soft protein bars and want to try flavors based on Swedish fika, ProPud keeps the choice fairly simple. Pick the flavor that sounds best to you and you already know that the texture will be soft.
Barebells gives you more to choose from. Along with a larger selection of flavors, the different ranges offer noticeably different textures. An Original Bar feels different from a Soft Bar, while Spread adds a crisp layer around the softer center.
So when choosing between the two, think about what matters most to you. Do you want a soft bar with a familiar Swedish flavor, or would you rather have more choice when it comes to texture and style?
